The Government of the Dominican Republic, through the Ministry of Pubic Health (MISPAS), intervened in 2010 in order to complete a slow addition to the hospital that had taken more than 14 years; awarding a new contract to complete the hospital to IBT Group.

About the new San Lorenzo de Los Mina Maternity Hospital

Opening its door in 1974 as a general hospital, it was transformed into a maternity hospital due to the explosive demographic growth.  Today, the hospital registers approximately 18,000 births and 96,000 patients a year.  Every day, approximately 50 children are born and during high demand periods, capacity can reach above 98 percent.

The construction and equipment of the new addition counts with a three story structure, which will increase the hospitalization capacity and provide excellent maternity services to the Dominican population.

The hospital addition includes a first floor that will expand the capacity of consult offices from 14 to 32; a second floor for pre-delivery, delivery, and surgeries; and a third floor with a surgical block and intensive care units.

The hospital includes 9 operating rooms, gyno-obstetric surgery with laparoscopy, gynecological surgeries, general and dilation surgery; 10 beds for recovery and neonatal reanimation, 15 beds for delivery, 11 beds for pre-delivery, and monitoring equipment.

Thanks to a wide range of experience in the hospital industry, IBT Group was capable of installing the necessary equipment for the local population, utilizing the latest in modern medical equipment.

According to the president of IBT Group, Mr. Jose Ramon Brea Gonzalez: "Once again we say thank you to the government, especially President Dr. Leonel Fernandez Reyna and the Minister of Health, Dr. Bautista Rojas Gomez, for the opportunity to take part in this project of great social impact.  We would also like to thank all our personnel and contractors, who have collaborated directly and indirectly in this addition, in order to be able to comply with this extraordinary challenge on time and within budget."

Mr. Brea added:  "With this addition, delayed for more than 14 years, IBT Group assumed an important commitment, finishing this important and needed addition to the existing maternity hospital in less than 2 years."

With the culmination of this project, the commitment of IBT Group  to social wellbeing, progress, local development, and the protection of our natural environment remains our primary mission.
