IBT Group completes construction of 125-bed hospital

MIAMI – June 1, 2016 – IBT Group announced the recent completion of a multi-million dollar medical center in the Dominican Republic municipality of Higüey, which is nearby the resort areas of Punta Cana and La Romana.

“A full-service hospital was very much needed in the eastern provinces of the Dominican Republic, where there are thousands of low-income families. We made sure the Our Lady of Altagracia General and Specialties Hospital was fitted with the latest technology, including equipment for diagnostic imaging, hemodialysis and smart operating rooms,” said Daniel Toledano, managing director of IBT Group.

The dedication ceremony of the 125-bed hospital was attended by area dignitaries and inaugurated by the country’s president, Danilo Medina. IBT Group financed, designed, built and equipped the 62,336-square-foot, three-story structure, which cost more than $28 million.

The Our Lady of Altagracia General and Specialties Hospital offers emergency care and five intensive care units furnished with the latest in medical equipment. The center also provides operating rooms, diagnostic imaging, a pharmacy, pathology lab, a blood bank, hemodialysis, gastroenterology services, two modern ambulances, and two back-up generators, among other resources. The hospital administration works out of 15 offices. In addition, it is the only hospital in the country that is equipped for psychiatric treatment.

The hospital’s main lobby is graced with an acrylic painting by Dominican artist José Cestero that measures more than 10-by-12 feet of the Virgin of Altagracia, allegorical to the protective and spiritual mother of the Dominican Republic.
