Panamanian Government awards Eurofinsa the construction of a women’s prison

Madrid,6 April 2017.- Panama’s Government has awarded IBT GROUP, a Company pertaining to the Spanish Eurofinsa Group specialized in infrastructures and civil works, the contract for the design, construction and equipping of a new prison facility located in Pacora District, east of Panama City’s metropolitan area.

This 20-month project budgeted at 27.6 million dollars will be built on a 15-hectar tract. IBT Group scored 94.58 /100 points to be awarded this contract, its nearly perfect score on the five aspects emphasized by the project evaluation Committee being outstanding.

This new Prison Facility will have a capacity to house 732 inmates, their physical and psychological well-being being the main criteria in its design. The facility will have different rehabilitation and social reinsertion areas, including services such as a chapel, auditorium, mother-and-child living facility, living facilities of different security levels, a building for female guard living quarters, a clinic, school, University and playing courts.

Eurofinsa will maintain the investment in aspects including the use of energy-saving measures and environmental technology advancements in the field of energy and CO2 emissions, water cycle, ecology and biodiversity, community and local environment.

The revamping of Panama’s prison system requires a functional, modern facility being built fully complying with the standards of a prison facility for improving the living conditions of its inmates. This aspect has been a top priority in the project the IBT Group submitted to the Panamanian authorities.
